JUST MINUTES FROM DOWNTOWN DALLAS, HISTORY AND HOSPITALITY MEET ON THE HILl
Perched on a hill in the heart of Oak Cliff, the Oak Cliff Assembly has been a beacon of community and resilience since its origins in 1941. The story began with spirited tent revivals on the very grounds where the iconic narrow building now stands. Over the years, the Assembly became a vibrant gathering place, even hosting the Gatlin Brothers, who once graced its halls with their music.
In 2009, this historic site was officially recognized as a Historical Landmark, ensuring the preservation of its striking front façade. The building's rich heritage includes its time under the stewardship of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, a congregation tied to groundbreaking figures such as DISD’s first African American teacher.
After years of standing dormant, with water pooling in its once-bustling theater, the Oak Cliff Assembly was purchased in 2022 by Proxy Properties, ushering in a new chapter for this cherished landmark. 2024 brought the partnership with Boxwood Hospitality to breathe new life into its historic spaces, blending modern hospitality with its storied past. Its walls hold decades of stories, from soulful revivals to cultural milestones, a testament to the enduring spirit of Oak Cliff.
